religion ———> environment?

So I had this idea a few days ago and thought it was bullshit but then considered the amount of bullshit that oozes forth from religion anyway and thus thought it might gain some credibility afterall.

My idea: twist some passage/phrase/saying/paragraph/sentence/line from the bible into “Save the Environment!”. No use trying to prove religion is bullshit, we all know where that will end up, therefore I had the idea: why not USE people’s blind faith in religion to actually finally do something good? No one is getting off their asses to do things that reduce the use of fossil fuels or any of that jazz, so why not say that god or jesus said so and then it’ll just be so.

Of course I realise that this takes a bit of planning but if people can use religion to stop homosexuals from getting married then I dont think its too hard to get people to do something good because of it.

And of course it would all have to start with government making new policies & laws and all that shit mandatory, plus actually paying money for the renewable energy sources.

Right now the problem is that if you suddenly spend a shedload of money on say wind turbines and place them all over the country, you’re gonna get shit from people saying “it’s a hazard to birds” and all the way to “it pollutes the view” (I’m not making this up). You’ll also run into the problem of being responsible for the evaporation of massive quantities of money which you’ll have to make up for by driving up taxes/oil/electricity prices. The funny thing is in this case you DON’T reap what you sow but the guys that come into power after you and the guys after them reap the profits of N watts that come from “renewable sources” and pretty looking statistics of energy ratios and things like that. You will more or less be remembered as “the guy that raised taxes through the roof”.

BUT… if you can put a religious spin on this whole thing, something like God wants us all to preserve this planet Earth for all his creations (da da da some bullshit like that find someone educated in the subject and has read the book written by the council of nicea) then you’ve got yourself a first class arbitrary excuse to override any logical argument made against you because now you have God on your side and somehow since I-dont-know-when that makes you absolutely politically correct. Anyone against you has obviously “yet to find god” regardless if that is relevant and anyway you have the ginormous religious community behind you - don’t forget, majority is power!

But then my idea would only work pretty well within the next few decades because of two main reasons.
1) the planet is going to shit. we dont have much time.
2) religion is actually losing. we must hurry before everyone wakes up and smells the… Do this as soon as possible while we still have religious people in all the important positions.

This plan combines an existing shitty situation which no amount of logical argument can solve with the global dilemma (crisis) everyone is aware of but no one wants to solve.
